HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE (1993)

by craig lock

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Craig Lock was born in Cape Town, South Africa. He and his New Zealand wife, Marie are inveterate world travellers, which is why their housekeeping budget is always blown (and their twin boys have no shoes). They are presently living in beautiful New Zealand in the 'slow lane'. Craig was a life assurance man all his life (and proud of it), but not having made it to even the middle of the "business pyramid", he changed direction in life...drastically. As he climbed up the corporate ladder, he found it got narrower and narrower... until he fell off. Also finding himself at middle age in a small town at the bottom of the world with nothing to do and no prospects, he took up writing. This is his third book with many more in the pipeline. He loves writing and is absolutely sure that he has found his niche in life. Anyway, what other job would be suitable for him?

DEDICATION:

This work is dedicated to all those out there with the urge to travel. No matter how old or young you are, I believe travel broadens the mind as well as touching your life in a unique way. For me it's something special in my life. I don't expect most young people to travel the way I did, roughing it so much. I reflect on the time described in this manuscript as being among the best days of my life - the people I met, the experiences I had were those of a lifetime. However, I have found the less money you have, the more fun and unexpected adventures in store of you. So if you have the right spirit and attitude and are a little bit insane (who isn't!),
as the Nike ad says:
JUST
DO IT

#

Thanks to my beloved wife, Marie for putting up with me for so long and adding in some normal bits, like the descriptive pieces. As well as doing the laborious proofreading for day after day (in addition to looking after undomesticated me!). By the time you have finished, Marie you'll be one of us - me and my friends in our little world of the "Bewilderness"...and no longer a "big fooze". Then little men in white coats will come and take you away as well, ha ha! Also Thanks to Birgita of Minerva Press for her excellent proof reading and punctuation. She could be a professor of English at Oxford University. How about a raise or collection... at least for her?

WARNING!
This manuscript contains some rather explicit material and should not be read by anyone still clutching a teddy bear or playing with dolls, unless you are over twenty one; also not by anyone who is the least bit sane who does a normal day's work in a normal job. It is definitely only for mentally retarded adults with a weird sense of humour, like mine, who have worked in the SEX industry for longer than seven minutes (especially PART TWO).

INTRODUCTION
When people travel they leave all their home comforts behind and spend all their time trying to recreate those same comforts that they left behind in a strange place.

"I travel not to go anywhere, but to go..."

Craig Lock is an extensive world traveller and failed professional emigrater who has spent most of his life’s savings on airfares. He is still ‘sliding down the razor blade of life’, stuck on a deserted (other than a few brilliant rugby players) island at the bottom of the world near Antarctica, where he is ‘trying to throw a double six’ to get off and go out into the real world ? but he doesn’t know where!

In the style of Bill Bryson, HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE tells tales of his "crazy, hair-raising" adventures in his younger years through ‘Grate’ Britain and the Continent

"Give me the young man who has brains enough to make a fool of himself."

- anon

"For my part, I travel not to go anyway, but to go. I travel for travel's sake.
